Representative Bryan Steil (R-WI-01) responded to President Joe Biden’s press conference, calling out President Joe Biden for questioning the integrity of future elections. Steil said in a press release, “For over a year, Democrats have been saying anyone who questions election integrity is paramount to treason.”
Steil added that Biden did the very thing Democrats have been decrying all year.
“President Biden did just that by questioning the legitimacy of future elections during his press conference if the Democrats’ partisan election bill is not passed in the Senate,” he said this week.
Steil reacted to comments Biden made about election integrity.
Biden said, “I’m not saying it’s going to be legit. The increase in the prospect of being illegitimate is in direct proportion to us not being able to get these reforms passed.”
Biden responded to a question from a reporter in the press conference, who asked, “Speaking of voting rights legislation, if this isn’t passed, do you still believe the upcoming election will be fairly conducted and its results will be legitimate?”
“Well, all depends on whether or not we’re able to make the case to the American people that some of this is being set up to try to alter the outcome of the election,” Biden said.
Steil said he believes the solution to election integrity is enacting reforms like requiring voter ID. He said rather than questioning election results “we should be instilling faith in our elections, empowering states to secure our elections, and implementing election integrity measures like voter ID.”
