RNC, Republicans in Wisconsin Ramp Up Efforts to Recruit, Hire Poll Watchers Ahead of Midterms

by Joseph Weber

Republicans in Wisconsin are recruiting poll watchers to monitor voting in November, as the GOP embarks on a multimillion-dollar effort to recruit tens-of-thousands of poll watchers and workers to monitor voting.

Both initiatives are part of renewed efforts to respond to the allegations of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Republican National Committee initiative also includes the hiring of dozens of staffer to monitor voting.

Many Republican voters ahead of the Nov. 8 midterm Election Day remain skeptical about the results of the 2020 election, in which GOP President Trump lost reelection.

And the GOP effort, at least in part, appears to be a way to ensure their voters go to the polls, instead of staying home over doubts about the validity of the process.

Democrats are concerned about the possibility of partisan volunteers intimidating voters or election officials. They and voting-rights advocates have long argued that aggressive poll watchers could lead to voter intimidation.

In Wisconsin’s Brown County, the local Republican party says it has signed up over 100 poll watchers and is working to recruit more volunteers, the newspaper also reports.
