Former Milwaukee mayoral candidate Bob Donovan, who was defeated by Cavalier Johnson, announced on Monday a new campaign for State Assembly.

According to a release from Donovan, he will run as a Republican in the 84th Assembly District, which encompasses a portion of Milwaukee, Greenfield, and Hales Corners.

Acting mayor Cavalier Johnson and former alderman Bob Donovan will advance to the Milwaukee mayoral general election, after the individuals gathered the highest support in the Tuesday primary election.

Johnson collected 42 percent of the vote in the low-turnout contest, compared to Donovan’s 22 percent.
