Trump Says DOJ Told Him He is a Target in Jan. 6 Probe, Must Report to Grand Jury

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was informed by the Justice Department that he is a target of the Jan. 6 Grand Jury probe and he must report to the jury this week.

“Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter (again, it was Sunday night!) stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and indictment,” Trump wrote.

Special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing investigations into Trump’s handling of classified materials as well as the former president’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.

Trump has already been indicted on 37 counts related to allegedly mishandling classified documents. He pleaded not guilty to all charges last month. Trump is trying to delay the trial until after the 2024 election, while Smith’s team rejected that proposal and is trying to have the trial scheduled for December.

Trump also wrote Tuesday that Attorney General Merrick Garland, together with the Justice Department, “have effectively issued a third Indictment and Arrest of Joe Biden’s NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, who is largely dominating him in the race for the Presidency.”

Trump added that a fourth indictment out of Atlanta is “probable” as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is investigating the Trump team’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Separately, Trump faces 34 criminal charges in New York related to his alleged role in a hush-money scheme.
