Radicalized Medical Associations Ask DOJ and Big Tech to Censor and Prosecute Journalists Opposing Gender Surgeries for Minors

National medical associations that have been infiltrated by radical leftists wrote to Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland this week requesting the Department of Justice (DOJ) “do more” to block the views of those who spread “disinformation” regarding transgender surgeries for minors and to “take swift action to investigate and prosecute all organizations, individuals, and entities responsible.”

Journalist and author Christopher Rufo posted the letter from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Children’s Hospital Association to Garland.

The claim by the medical groups is that media exposure of the transgender industry’s clinics, which are treating minors with likely irreversible cross-sex hormones and body-mutilating transgender surgeries, have led to threats of violence.

The organizations’ rationale appears to be that to address the alleged “threats of violence” – which could be done with law enforcement – the government must also suppress, censure, and criminalize those who oppose what they do to minors, in order not to interrupt this “care”:

These coordinated attacks threaten federally protected rights to health care for patients and their families. The attacks are rooted in an intentional campaign of disinformation, where a few high-profile users on social media share false and misleading information targeting individual physicians and hospitals, resulting in a rapid escalation of threats, harassment, and disruption of care across multiple jurisdictions. Our organizations have called on technology companies to do more to prevent this practice on digital platforms, and we now urge your office to take swift action to investigate and prosecute all organizations, individuals, and entities responsible.

“This is now the Left’s playbook,” Rufo wrote. “[L]ast year, the National School Board Association, Department of Justice, and F.B.I. worked together to label parents who opposed critical race theory ‘domestic terrorists.’ They want to stifle dissent, suppress speech, and criminalize opposition.”

Rufo posted the “blindingly clear” moral view of the situation:

“If ‘gender-affirming care’ is so good, the activists and doctors who promote it—and profit from it—should defend their practices in the realm [of] public opinion,” Rufo asserted. “In a democracy, everyone gets to weigh in on important issues, not just regime-approved apparatchiks.”

A recent report at MedPage Today revealed left-wing medical students who have become politically active in AMA have influenced the shift toward radicalization of the establishment organization.

In June, for example, during the AMA’s House of Delegates meeting in Chicago, some delegates from the Medical Students Section (MSS) were in agreement with a representative from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an alternate delegate from the California Medical Association to promote shifting of funding away from curricula that emphasize delaying sexual activity and toward comprehensive sex education in schools at all levels.

These delegates and officials are promoting the type of curricula produced and taught by abortion provider Planned Parenthood, now also the nation’s second-largest provider of transgender hormone treatments, and LGBTQ activists seeking access to school-age children.

In the video below, resident Haidn Foster, M.D., chair of the AMA MSS, described the organization’s student section as a “policy powerhouse within the AMA.”

Foster, an LGBTQ activist, named what he considers to be some of the MSS’s “policy wins,” including the establishment of the AMA position that asserts “racism is a threat to public health,” and other “advances in LGBTQ policies.”

“Studies have found time and again that abstinence-based ‘sex ed’ has no effect on decreasing teen pregnancy rates and does not delay the initiation of sexual activity,” Meghina Peesapati, an MSS delegate from Indiana, said, according to MedPage Today, though that narrative has been debunked.

What the Left refers to as “abstinence-based sex ed” is actually sexual risk avoidance (SRA) education, an approach based on primary prevention, “an established public health model used to promote wellness and eliminate risk,” states Ascend, which promotes SRA.

According to Ascend, 25 SRA education programs have demonstrated “statistically significant results in reducing teen sex or affecting other important behavioral health indicators in teen sexual decision-making.”

“The independent research findings of these SRA programs are completely compatible with a strong risk avoidance public health model,” Ascend says, providing the compendium of the research findings here.

The rationale of individuals such as MSS delegate Peesapati, however, appears to be consistent with the National Sex Education Standards, developed by Planned Parenthood along with other abortion-promoting and LGBTQ activist groups, that stress abstinence from sexual activity for minors is no longer the expected norm and government schools should be primarily responsible for instruction in sex ed.

Peesapati, for example, reportedly reasoned the removal of the family as the center of sexuality instruction is necessary because children of parents with different cultural backgrounds, as well as children of immigrants and foster children “do not have access to parents who might talk to them,” she said, according to MedPage Today.

Reacting to the news of the radical medical organizations’ attempt to use the force of the federal government to suppress opposition to its policies was Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who posted to social media, “If you’re a doctor and a member of the American Medical Association, RESIGN NOW. And demand your dues be refunded.”
