“If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed,” top House Democrats said in a statement.

Democratic leaders in the House indicated Tuesday that if Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., attempted to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson, they would work against such a move.

“We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a statement, according to CBS News. “If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.”

Greene responded to the statement from House Democrats on the social media platform X, calling Johnson the “Democratic Speaker” of the House.

“He should resign, switch parties, and continue voting for Biden’s open border invasion of America, endless wars, full term abortion on demand, trans agenda on children, warrantless spying on the American people, weaponizing government against President Trump and his supporters, and every other Democrat wishlist item he’s handed over,” she wrote.

Greene filed a motion to vacate the speaker’s chair earlier this year after Johnson supported a $1.2 trillion “minibus” spending package. GOP Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., have supported Greene’s effort.

“Hakeem Jeffries vows to save Mike Johnson’s Speakership,” Massie said in response to the Democrats’ statement. “Why wouldn’t he? Johnson has given the Democrats everything they want.”
